According to the current research, all materials have physical limits in terms of electricity yield. For example, the maximum efficiency of crystalline silicon is about 28 %. However, tandem cells are a promising development. These combine different semiconductor materials in such a way that they are able to exploit a wider range of the spectrum of sunlight. Laboratory cells have already achieved efficiency values of over 25%.
